Updated Information on Road Status, Construction, and Transit to Machu Picchu

At Machu Picchu by Car VIP, we maintain daily, continuous monitoring of weather conditions and infrastructure along the Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica corridor. Below, we provide detailed updates on current road conditions so you can plan your itinerary with complete confidence.
Current Road Conditions & Ongoing Roadworks
1. Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Abra Málaga Status: Fully paved and open in both directions. Condition: Excellent road conditions with smooth traffic flow.
2. Santa María – Santa Teresa & Tunnel Project Status: Traffic is flowing normally. Infrastructure Progress: Construction of the new road tunnel to Santa Teresa has completed its excavation and structural phases and is approaching its official opening. Until the new infrastructure is formally opened, traffic continues to use the existing adapted route safely and normally.
3. Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica Station Status: Road modernization and paving works are currently underway. Travel Consideration: Due to ongoing paving and road improvement works in this section, temporary traffic restrictions or minor delays of approximately 20–40 minutes may occur.
